About Mangfei Mountain
Mangfei Mountain is located in Yongde County in Lincang, western Yunnan. Lincang is one of China's major tea-producing regions and is well known for its large-leaf tea varieties.
Tea has been cultivated around Mangfei for generations, with both cultivated tea gardens and older tea trees found in the surrounding mountain communities.
Mangfei tea is often associated with a noticeable bitterness and astringency when young, followed by hui gan (回甘), or returning sweetness. The teas can also have strong aromas and a long-lasting aftertaste.
This makes Mangfei particularly interesting for people who enjoy young raw Puerh. Rather than being immediately sweet and soft, the tea can develop through several stages in the mouth.
The initial bitterness and astringency are followed by sweetness and a lingering finish. This changing experience is an important part of the character of many teas from this area.
Teas from Mangfei Mountain
Our Mangfei selection focuses on the mountain's stronger and more structured style.
We look for tea that shows the character of the leaf and the environment where it was grown rather than trying to make every tea taste the same.
Mangfei is one of the mountains that shows why I enjoy exploring different tea regions in Yunnan. Each area has its own combination of elevation, climate, trees and processing traditions.
